Among Labaton’s recent achievements, the Firm reached settlements in securities cases including In re Fidelity National Information Services, Inc. Securities Litigation ($210 million, pending final court approval), In re PG&E Corporation Securities Litigation ($100 million, pending final court approval), and Lilien v. Olaplex Holdings, Inc. ($47.5 million); as well as corporate governance and shareholder rights cases including In Re Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc. Stockholders Litigation ($125 million), Ontario Provincial Council of Carpenters' Pension Trust Fund, et al. v. S. Robson Walton ($123 million), and In re Pattern Energy Group Inc. Stockholders Litigation ($100 million), among others. In addition, the Firm secured major victories in consumer protection and data privacy litigation cases, including securing a historic jury verdict in a data privacy case against Meta Platforms, Inc., and achieving class certification in a high-profile case against Amazon.com, Inc., alleging that devices operating Amazon’s Alexa technology violated federal and state wiretapping statutes, among others.
Partner Carol C. Villegas was named “Plaintiff Litigator of the Year” in recognition of her outstanding achievements that continue to advance the legal industry in impactful ways. Among her successes of 2025, Carol co-led the team that secured a historic jury verdict against Meta Platforms, Inc. in Frasco v. Flo Health Inc., which found the company liable for the unauthorized collection and use of sensitive personal health data through the Flo Health app. This not only marked a watershed moment in the fight for digital accountability, standing as one of the first cases where a jury has held a major technology company accountable for its handling of consumer health information, but sent an important message about safeguarding individual rights in the digital age. Carol has also been instrumental in securing major recoveries on behalf of investors, including City of Warwick Retirement System v. Catalent, Inc. ($78 million, pending final court approval), among many others. In addition to her work as an elite litigator, Carol is a leader both within and outside of the Firm. Carol serves on the Firm's Executive Committee, as Chair of the Firm's Women's Initiative, and as Chief of Compliance, where she drives key initiatives, advances the Firm’s client development strategies, and is a mentor to the next generation of attorneys. Outside of the Firm, Carol is a highly-regarded leader of the plaintiffs’ bar and a vocal advocate for investors, where she is an active member of the New York State Bar Association's Women in the Law Section and Chair of the Board of Directors of the City Bar Fund, the nonprofit arm of the New York City Bar Association.
