"A Day in the Life" as London Partner Jamie E. Hanley

Jamie E Hanley
Jamie E. Hanley

Offering an insightful and engaging look into his role, Jamie E. Hanley chronicled his day as Partner-in-Charge of Labaton Keller Sucharow’s London office for BCL Legal’s The Brief “A Day in the Life” series.

Highlighting that no two days are ever quite the same, Jamie pens an energizing workday that includes meeting with a national pensions officer of a major UK trade union to discussing the UK Stewardship Code and the role institutional investors have in advancing meaningful reform with a member of the UK Parliament to coordinating with a client’s custodian bank to facilitate data sharing for loss analysis, and more.  “I always enjoy speaking with those who understand the powerful role Local Authority Pension Funds can play in influencing corporate behavior for the better,” Jamie notes.

Reflecting on his nearly three decades of experience representing clients harmed by corporate fraud, misconduct, or governance failures, Jamie notes, “I feel extremely fortunate to work at a firm that’s at the forefront of representing institutional investors.  Our clients often suffer losses through no fault of their own, due to fraud, misconduct, or severe governance failures, and it’s our job to help them seek accountability.  I’m continually inspired by the tenacity and skill of my colleagues, many of whom dedicate their careers to recovering funds on behalf of hardworking pensioners who rely on modest retirement incomes after a lifetime of service.  When those pensions are harmed, I find it deeply gratifying to help even the scales.”  Calling to the forefront the Firm’s work in a high-profile securities case against Boeing, which alleges the company prioritized profits over passenger safety, Jamie underlines the case as an important example of how institutional investors “can drive meaningful change through proactive engagement.”
