Documented recently reported on the experience of our pro bono clients Carlos and Leila, who were forcibly separated at the U.S. border despite entering at a legal port of entry with all the relevant paperwork to claim asylum.
In the article, Labaton Sucharow partner Christine Fox, who represents Carlos and Leila in their asylum application and helped reunify them two weeks ago, highlighted the legal complexities and challenges migrants face while seeking asylum in the United States. "If this is difficult for three lawyers in a firm, I can't imagine...I mean, there must be people missing immigration hearings, that are getting reunited and going other places. How are they following their underlying cases? We're in a ball of confusion."
