Law360 has recognized Labaton Sucharow as one of its Class Action Groups of the Year for 2018. The Firm’s work in obtaining a $96 million in settlements in an antitrust class alleging manipulation of the ISDAfix benchmark, and for winning class recertification in a high profile action against Goldman Sachs was a significant consideration in earning the acknowledgment.
Gregory Asciolla, Co-Chair of the Firm's Antitrust and Competition Litigation Practice, led the team that recovered more than $500 million in total recoveries on behalf of investors that were harmed by manipulation of the global swaps and options benchmark ISDAfix by several behemoth banks and financial institutions, including JP Morgan, Barclays, and Bank of America. “Settlements are always good things. And to have your final set of settlements, of course, is the best feeling,” said Greg.
The Firm was also successful in winning class certification for investors in a class action against Goldman Sachs that was filed in the aftermath of the financial crisis. Partner Tom Dubbs, who is leading the Labaton Sucharow team, acknowledged the persistence required to litigate against the “tenacious defense” of Goldman Sachs. “It's completely a plaintiff contingency firm, and we're devoted day in and day out to protecting the rights of investors.”
