Claiborne R. Hane

Claiborne R. Hane focuses on prosecuting complex securities fraud cases on behalf of institutional investors.

Prior to joining Labaton Sucharow, Clay secured a $219 million recovery from Genworth Financial for misleading investors about the true state of its deteriorating long-term care insurance business. This recovery is the largest securities fraud class action settlement in the Eastern District of Virginia and third largest in the Fourth Circuit. Clay was also instrumental in securing a $120 million recovery from Weatherford International, Ltd., one of the largest international oil and natural gas service companies, for understating its global effective tax rate and overstating earnings per share.

After completing law school, Clay was a law clerk for Gray, Ritter & Graham, P.C., where he worked on product liability and commercial litigation cases. He also was a judicial extern at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.

Clay earned his J.D. from Washington University School of Law, where he contributed to the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy, and his B.A. in Political Science from Duke University.
