Labaton Sucharow Partner Named to Ethisphere's 2012 Attorneys Who Matter

NEW YORK (December 7, 2012) — Labaton Sucharow LLP today announced that partner Jordan A. Thomas has been named a Rising Star in the esteemed ranking, 2012 Attorneys Who Matter, by the Ethisphere Institute, a leading international think tank focused on business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability.

The Attorneys Who Matter ranking recognizes the finest practitioners in a wide range of legal disciplines within government, private law practice and corporate law departments. These attorneys have risen to the top based on their expertise, peer or client endorsements, participation in high-profile cases and overall litigation and administrative success. The review also factors public service records, legal community engagement and academic involvement and contributions.

Thomas joined Labaton Sucharow in July 2011, following a long and distinguished career in federal law enforcement. As a former Assistant Director and Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel in the Enforcement Division of the Securities and Exchange Commission, he played a leadership role in the development of the SEC Whistleblower Program. This program has broad extraterritorial reach and offers eligible whistleblowers, regardless of nationality, employment protections, monetary awards and the ability to report possible securities violations anonymously. To ensure that adequate funds are available to pay whistleblower awards, Congress has established a replenishing Investor Protection Fund, which currently has a balance in excess of $450 million.

"It is a great honor to be included in Ethisphere's 2012 Attorneys Who Matter ranking. I am proud and humbled by the caliber of the attorneys named to this list – all tremendous leaders in public service, private practice and within major corporations."

Since joining private practice, while protecting and advocating for SEC whistleblowers, Thomas has been a sought after writer and speaker on corporate integrity issues. Among his many accomplishments, he helped to establish, a first-of-its-kind website that offers comprehensive thought leadership, resources and cutting-edge web-based tools to help responsible organizations establish a culture of integrity and courageous whistleblowers to report possible securities violations—without regrets.

"The Ethisphere Institute is a well-respected organization and we share its core mission. Indeed, for more than 50 years, Labaton Sucharow has worked tirelessly to create a commercial environment characterized by integrity, transparency and accountability. Jordan's deep commitment to helping responsible organizations establish cultures of integrity that will deter corporate wrongdoing continues this proud tradition," remarked Edward Labaton, senior partner at Labaton Sucharow. "We are very proud of Jordan. This is a well-deserved honor."
