PLI's Consumer Data Privacy Legislation: Who’s Stepping Back and Who’s Stepping Up

New York, NY
May 25, 2017

The Practising Law Institute (PLI) will host a briefing titled, "Consumer Data Privacy Legislation: Who’s Stepping Back and Who’s Stepping Up" on May 25, 2017 from 1-2pm EST. The briefing will explore the current state of the law and emerging trends in data privacy legislation and regulation, as courts, legislators, and regulators have struggled not only to keep pace with these changes, but also to establish who will lead the conversation. The panelists will assess the impact that these changes will have on how companies operate in today’s marketplace, and what remedies are (and may become) available to consumers when their personal information is mishandled.

Of Counsel Corban S. Rhodes will participate in this discussion alongside Alan Charles Raul of Sidley Austin LLP, and Maia T. Spilman of the Law Offices of Maia T. Spilman, LLC. Topics that will be covered include:

  • Current trends in privacy litigation
  • Federal legislative and regulatory agenda shifts
  • State legislatures’ recent and proposed legislation
  • Impact on businesses trying to comply with the shifting privacy landscape
