Paul J. Scarlato

Paul Scarlato has over 20 years’ experience litigating complex commercial matters, primarily in the prosecution of securities fraud and consumer fraud class actions and shareholder derivative actions.  

Mr. Scarlato has litigated numerous cases on behalf of institutional and individual investors involving companies in a broad range of industries, many of which involved financial statement manipulation and accounting fraud. Mr. Scarlato was one of three lead attorneys for the class in Kaufman v. Motorola, Inc., a securities-fraud class action case that recovered $25 million for investors just weeks before trial and, was one of the lead counsel in Seidman v. American Mobile Systems, Inc., a securities-fraud class action case that resulted in a favorable settlement for the class on the eve of trail. Mr. Scarlato also served as co-lead counsel in In re: Corel Corporation Securities Litigation, and as class counsel in In re AOL Time Warner Securities Litigation, a securities fraud class action that recovered $2.5 billion for investors.

After law school, Mr. Scarlato served as law clerk to Judge Nelson Diaz of the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County, and Justice James McDermott of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Thereafter, he worked in the tax department of a “big-six” accounting firm prior to entering private practice. 

Mr. Scarlato has received a rating of AV from the publishers of the Martindale-Hubbell directory.
