Alan I. Ellman

Overview

Alan I. Ellman concentrates his practice on prosecuting complex securities fraud cases on behalf of institutional investors.

Currently, Alan is actively involved in prosecuting In re Kingate Management Limited Securities Litigation and In re Optimal U.S. Litigation. Since joining Labaton Sucharow, he has also been responsible for prosecuting In re Satyam Computer Services Ltd. Securities Litigation and In re Bear Stearns Companies, Inc. Securities Litigation ($275 million settlement with Bear Stearns Companies, and a $19.9 million settlement with Deloitte & Touche LLP, Bear Stearns’ outside auditor; pending court approval).

Alan was a member of the team that successfully litigated the stock options backdating case In re Mercury Interactive Corp. Securities Litigation, which resulted in a $117.5 million settlement. He also is experienced in lead plaintiff motion practice and new case development.

In September 2006, Alan received a Volunteer and Leadership Award from Housing Conservation Coordinators (HCC) for his pro bono service defending a client in Housing Court against a non-payment action, arguing an appeal before the Appellate Term, and staffing HCC's legal clinic. He also successfully appealed a pro bono client’s criminal sentence before the Appellate Division.

Alan co-authored the article “U.S. Focus: Time for Action” in the U.K.’s Legal Week.

Prior to joining Labaton Sucharow, Alan practiced securities litigation and regulatory enforcement defense as an associate at Chadbourne & Parke LLP.

Alan received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He graduated cum laude from the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science and a B.S. in Management, with a concentration in Finance.

He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
