Law360 Names Labaton Sucharow Partner Serena Hallowell “Rising Star”
NEW YORK (April 5, 2016) – Labaton Sucharow LLP is pleased to announce that Firm partner Serena Hallowell has been named a Class Action Rising Star by Law360. The annual Rising Star Series selects the top legal talent under the age of 40. Submissions include attorney accomplishments throughout the course of his or her career, the role played in significant cases, and leadership positions in and outside of the law firm.
Concentrating her practice on prosecuting complex securities fraud cases on behalf of institutional investors, Hallowell is one of five selected lawyers in the Class Action category, and the only woman, from an overall pool of more than 1,100 submissions. Her work as a tenacious securities litigator able to adapt and work quickly in “rocket docket” cases, including those against Computer Sciences Corporation and telecommunications company NII was lauded in the April 4 profile article highlighting her achievements.
With regard to the expedited time table of a rocket docket case, Hallowell told Law360, “I think there is a benefit to having a clock on things. Rather than see it as a limitation, I see it as an opportunity to look at your case early on and see what the strongest parts of it are.”
Law360 also praised her efforts regarding a shareholder suit against pharmaceutical giant CVS, in which she argued discovery disputes, took depositions, worked with experts, sought class certification, and helped handle the day-to-day litigation strategy of the case.
Crediting her successes to having a willingness to ask for opportunities and take ownership, Hallowell looks forward to continuing to litigate cases and obtaining recoveries on behalf of the Firm’s clients.
“I get to work on very large complex cases against the best defense counsel in the country on behalf of shareholders who have been defrauded,” she said to Law360. “It’s really rewarding stuff.”
